So, you have heard about Site Content at Wealthy Affiliate, and you want to know what it’s about?
You have likely just read a review, or signed up for the platform. Maybe a friend was telling you about it, and how nice it is to have a content management system, such as this.
You may be thinking that Site Content sounds like content on a website. While that could be the case, that’s not we’re talking about here. In this case, We’re talking about a content management system inside of Wealthy Affiliate. This tool is what allows members to create, and get that great content to their websites.
It has many typical features that you would expect in a writing platform like this, however, it does have a little more to offer and we will go over that soon.
First things first though. You will need to be a member of Wealthy Affiliate, as this tool is exclusive to the platform. You do not need to pay anything to take full advantage of it, you can enjoy access with the free membership. No financial info required, and no obligations or up sells. You may choose to go premium to unlock the full power of the WA platform at your discretion.
If you want to learn everything you need to know about the platform, then please check out my Ultimate Wealthy Affiliate review.
Now, lets answer the question of this article first, and then we can cover the added benefits of the Site Content tool and how to use it.
What Is Site Content About?
Site Content is about user experience and adding value to the Wealthy Affiliate membership. This is one of many tools from the SiteRubix tool set that is exclusive to WA. This one in particular, is a writing or content creation platform that allows members to create and publish articles to their websites.
This is everything that you need to create and publish quality content. It comes fully equip with the standard writing features, that I will go over soon, plus a decent spell checker, and direct access to over one million creative commons zero images. The image feature alone is enough to make it desirable to most content creators, and this is one of that many ways that Wealthy Affiliate adds value at every turn for their members.
We are well taken care of with the incredible value offered, especially for the low cost of ZERO to join.
I have touched on some features of this tool already and explained what it’s really about, so let’s jump into how to use it, why it’s so nice, and the one issue I have with it
How To Use Site Content: The Features You Need At Your Fingertips
We will start by signing in to Wealthy Affiliate. Once your on the home page, click “Websites”, on the left-hand side of the screen, then, click Site Content as seen in the image below.
This will take you to the Site Content home page, and this is where you can manage all of your articles, writing goals, and monitor your stats within the WA platform.
This is a great writing platform and it has a lot to offer, so, we have a lot to cover. Time to settle in and enjoy the ride.
Let’s start with the stats that we can see at the top of the home page.
Yes, I am using screenshots from my actual profile, and these are my writing stats from the time I joined Wealthy Affiliate at the beginning of 2019. Check out the image below and I will explain what your looking at.
Starting from the left and working my way to the right, this is what we see.
- My username and writing level: The writing levels are based on published, unique content from the last 30 days, and on a scale from 1 to 5.
- All time words written: This is simply how many words I have written from the first time I used Site Content. This also shows that I have written more than 99% of WA members this month. Guess I’m on a roll.
- How many articles I have published to my sites: I have 32 articles currently published on my website.
- The number of unpublished articles I have: I also have 5 articles currently waiting to be finished and then published.
Now, the options just below these stats, offers you a way to sort, view, and manage all the content you have within this platform.
Grid or Bucket Pattern? Get Organized.
As you can see, we can sort the articles using a grid, or bucket pattern.
Buckets are a great way for you to organize your content. They are basically categories for you articles. This will be very handy when you are running more than one website and need to find articles related to a specific site.
Can you just imagine trying to keep up with your articles from five different websites on the same platform, with no way to organize them? What about 25 websites? How about 50 sites?
That would be a total pain, and I’m not sure about you, but I enjoy having things set up for convenience. I see the stress of being disorganized as a waste of my energy, because I have the tool to avoid that issue.
You can have up to 50 websites hosted with Wealthy Affiliate when you sign up for the premium membership. 25 free domains, and 25 premium domains. That’s a lot to keep up with, so they have made it easier to manage your content.
Using the Site Content buckets feature allows you more time to focus on what matters, and easily access any content that you have, published or not. WA adds value across the board, and this is just another example of that.
How To Create A Bucket Using Site Content:
This process is really simple and easy to do. Every article that you have posted will have a few options below them. We can use these options to get some quick info about each article, and to add them to existing buckets, or create new ones.
Let’s take a look real quick.
As you can see, there are 4 icons at the bottom of this article. Again, starting from left to right, this is what they represent.
- Google: Is this article ranked with Google? If it is highlighted, then yes it is.
- Bucket: You can easily add any article to a specific bucket. Just click the bucket icon and, either create a new bucket, or add it to an existing one.
- Upload: This icon, if highlighted, will tell you that this article has been published to your website.
- Trashcan: Not happy with your new post? Scrap it using this trashcan, and start over.
Pretty nice right? Everything inside Site Content is about making it simple for you. If you are just getting started online, then this will likely spoil you with the ease of use and functionality.
You can already see how this simple tool could be a huge asset to your online business, but we’re just getting started.
If you are currently using another writing platform, please let me know how you think it compares to this one. If you believe that it’s better, then I will check it out. No links though. I don’t publish spam on any websites.
Writing Templates: Keep Your Content Layout Consistent
Are you writing a lot of content that follows a similar pattern and layout?
For example: Let’s say you are writing a lot of product reviews on your niche website. You tend to stick with the same layout of content as you write, because you want to keep your site consistent for your audience. There is a specific order that you want your articles to follow as your building your brand. If the content is all over the place, it would seem too disorganized and may be a turn off, for visitors to your site.
The idea behind creating a template is to simplify the content creation process by, organizing your articles ahead of time with title and paragraph goals, adding some consistency to your website, and adding content and images that you are using frequently throughout all of your articles (such as a brand name, logo, or other standard image).
How cool would it be if you could just create a writing template that follows the same consistency you want to keep on your site?
Well, with Site Content, you can and it’s also really easy to do. Let’s take a look.
At the top of the Site Content home page, you will see an option for templates. Click it to be taken to your templates management page.
Once inside, you will have some pre-designed templates from Wealthy Affiliate, and you can create your own.
Anytime you select a template, it will automatically be loaded and ready for you to create your content. Simply replace the titles and sections as you go while following your layout.
You don’t have to be strict about this, so if your current articles goes outside the design of the template, it’s okay. The focus should be quality content first, not consistency of page layout.
So, how can you create a new template?
Well, it’s a 5 step process, and your in control. To get started, click “Create a new Template”, and this will display the 5 steps you need to take in order to complete the setup.
- Step One: Choose your template name, word count goal, and press “Save & Continue”.
You can select one of the predetermined word count options or choose your own specific figure in the box next to the save option.
It’s important to remember that the word count goal is just for reference. You do not need to have exactly the same word count for all the posts that use this template. As always, you are in control, and the number one priority is providing quality helpful content for your audience.
Also, Google does not like to see every article with the same word count. They like to see variety because they understand that their users also like that. Not to mention, that it would be incredibly difficult to make great helpful content using the exact same number of words every time you wrote an article.
- Step Two: Choose your heading count goal, or skip this option.
Notice that this is optional, however, it is also noted that the quality, readability, and engagement are weighted heavily on headings. This simply means, that the better your content is laid out, the easier it will be for you to share your message and you audience understand.
Just imagine if I had a title that said “How to create a bucket”, but then I explain how to create a template instead.
Not great for readability, engagement, or a quality article is it? Just keep it organized and go with the flow of your topic.
- Step Three: Choose how many paragraphs to have in the template.
Also, optional, but follows the same principle as your headings.
Always remember, in most cases, it’s a good idea to keep from having long paragraphs. Especially one after the other. While this does work well in some instances, the more effective strategy is to break up the content, so there is more white space between the paragraphs.
You can see how I am following this principle throughout all of my articles, because it makes my content easier for you to read.
- Step Four: Add your content.
Yet another optional choice, however, this is likely the most useful option of them all. Not to take anything away from the others, but this is where the magic happens. You will be using the Site Content writing platform to create your templates. I cover more about the features it offers later in this article.
Now, with your title and paragraph goals listed above, it’s time to add the content layout to your template. You can set this up however you like.
I typically just list my headings as heading 1, 2, 3, etc., because you will need to change them for each new article you create anyway. Do the same thing with your paragraph goals if you set one.
The best part, add those images that are standard across your site. If you use a logo at the bottom of every article you publish, then add that logo now, and this will be one less thing to worry about later.
It may not seem like much, but when you’re writing hundreds or thousands of articles, it will come in handy.
- Step Five: Start writing, make a change, or create another template.
Now, in my opinion, setting up a new template is technically a 4 step process, because step 5 is where we can either start using that template, modify it, or create a new one.
Writing Stats: Keeping Up With Your Progress
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could keep up with your overall writing stats and accomplishments?
Now you can. This is not a ranking factor for the search engines or some great feature to guide you through the process of being successful online, but it is a great way to see how far you’ve come from the start of your journey.
In order to see your stats, from the Site Content home page, select one of the two options underlined in the image below.
We can see a whole host of data from this page. Everything from our template goals to the number of words written over a period. You can see my current stats in the image below. This is only the top portion of the page. I will show the word count graph shortly.
We can change the time frame for these stats by choosing different options in the top right corner. Select custom to choose dates on a calendar for a very specific time frame.
All the data listed is self-explanatory, so I won’t waste a lot of time here. As I mentioned, this is purely for your to see how far you’ve come and manage the goals for where you plan to go.
The one extra feature that doesn’t just offer data, is the ability to set goals.
You can set both word count goals, and article publish goals. After setting these up, you can come back here anytime to track your progress. This is a great feature to hold yourself accountable. We all need some help to stay on track every now and then, and this will help you, to help yourself get focused.
Your goals will be blank whenever you visit this page for the first time. To set these goals up, simply click that option listed in the respective boxes.
As promised, the word count graph from the bottom of the stats page.
According to this graph, I am nearing the 100k words mark. There is a minor discrepancy here between what the graph shows, and what my stats at the top say, as that count only registers 65k words.
I’m not sure why these numbers do not match, but considering the value of this writing platform, I’m not that concerned with the difference.
Wow, we have covered a lot of info about Site Content, but I still haven’t showcased the actual writing platform itself. The platform that I am currently using to write this article for you now. I’ll go over that now, and stick around after this to see my one complaint about this writing tool.
The Site Content Writing Platform: Coding Without Coding
If you have been searching for a quality writing platform, that has all the basic tools and functions and also makes publishing your content a breeze. Then look no further then the SiteRubix Site Content tool, found only on Wealthy Affiliate. This has everything you need and so much more as you have already seen throughout this article.
Now, let me show you behind the scenes of the tool I am using to bring you this article now.
Starting from the Site Content home page, you will want to click “Create New” option to get started on your new content.
You will need to choose to create a new article from scratch, or use one of your templates from earlier.
For the sake of this article, I have chosen to start from scratch. If you have chosen to use a template, then you will see it here, otherwise you will see a blank slate as the image below.
All you need to do to get started is enter a title for your post, and start writing. As you create your content, you will have a host of options available to you for managing the article.
Notice the tools available across the top of the article. These are what allows you to customize the look and feel of the content.
Again, starting from left and moving right, I will explain what each one is.
Site Content Toolbar
If your used to writing with a platform similar to this, then your aware what these icons do. If you have used the old style of publishing content to your websites, then you will really appreciate this.
Not so long ago, every modification to your content would have needed to be coded into the articles. Coding is a process that many beginners will not be familiar with, and this tool makes it easy, regardless of your background.
The first 11 icons are text modifiers, and each one will alter the indicated text, by automatically adding the code for you to the backside of the article. This is a huge deal for those who are new to the online world and no little to nothing about coding. While it is nice to know how to, and understand code, it’s no longer a necessity for beginners to get started online.
Now, the link text feature is a great tool to use, and it makes everything really simple when you are linking to other content that you have published through Site Content. Let me show you what I mean real quick, this won’t take long.
Internal And External Linking Using Site Content
This is one of my many favorite aspects of the Site Content tool, and after using it for a while, I’m sure you will agree that it’s hard to beat this convenience.
When creating a link, you will want to highlight the desired link text, and then click the link icon and choose to insert link. This will give you a pop-up with some options as seen below.
To make an internal link, start with selecting the website you wish to link to, then choose the article to link to. You can also choose to have your link open in a new window. This allows your users to remain on your page while letting them view your other content without loosing their place on the original.
To make an external link, simply paste the URL into the corresponding text box, and click insert.
Pretty cool right?
This tool will make your content publishing life so much easier than it was in the past.
Now, lets cover the last few icons on the Site Content writing platform.
Adding Images To Your Articles: My One Complaint
This feature, is one that you will not see often on other writing platforms, and it’s a great way to find creative commons zero images for your articles. You can easily search over 1 million free images for you to use at your discretion.
Just click the image icon and a new window will open. Choose to either upload an image, use a previous image, or perform a search and choose from the results.
No need to worry about copy write laws, because every image is sourced from trusted third party sites. You can go to those sites to find the images yourself or use this feature for your added convenience, the choice is yours.
There is one downside to this feature, and this is my one complaint. You cannot download the images using this method.
They will be added to your article, but you will not have a copy of the images on your computer. I often find myself wanting to optimize the images I use, to minimize the drag on my website. Oversize images will kill your websites speed.
Keeping things fast is important, and while Site Content is a great tool, it does not optimize images for you. All websites created and hosted at Wealthy Affiliate have an image optimizer pre-installed and this does the heavy lifting for you, however, I still find that I can save more space by optimizing them myself. This means I need a copy of the image to be used, so I can modify it as I see fit.
Luckily, Wealthy Affiliate has recently added another update. They are now pre-installing the Kraken image optimizer on all new websites, and it will soon be available to older websites as well. Kraken is the tool that I have been using for every image on my site, and it is hands down, the best image optimizer on the market. The best thing about the update is that they are giving us access to the paid version of Kraken.
How cool is that? Adding more value to the membership and not charging us anything extra for it. These guys really do spoil us.
Grammar Tool: Don’t Make No Mistakes Now
This tool is not perfect either, and if you have used anything similar, you understand that a perfect spelling and grammar checker is a myth. There is no such thing.
There are too many writing styles, spelling variations, and slang for any tool to accurately check for and offer corrections.
As you can see from the image above. My “Don’t Make No Mistakes Now” heading, is not being flagged as a grammar error. Maybe this tool recognizes some southern slang, or maybe it just has no clue. Either way, it will catch a lot of spelling errors, but I highly suggest you read your own content again before publishing.
Last But Not Least: Save And Publish Your Content
Site Content will automatically save your content while you create it. If you ever need to rewind to a previous version, simply click the revisions link at the bottom right corner of the article, and choose from the provided options. Over the course of writing this article, I have accumulated 31 separate revisions.
If your ever in doubt, just click the “Save” button, and worry no more.
Now, the last of my favorite features about the Site Content tool, is publishing the content.
After you have checked over everything, and double-checked, and maybe even triple checked, it’s time to hit that publish button. This will present you with a couple of options.
First, choose the website you wish to publish the content on, and choose if this content is a page or a post.
Now, decide what user to publish with, and press “Publish”. If you wish to alter your permalink, now is the time to do so. Wealthy Affiliate teaches you how to set this up in the early stages of creating your website, so if you follow the training, I suggest you not change this aspect.
Once you have published your new content, the Site Content tool will first check that your content is unique, to help avoid any plagiarism issues, and then give you a few more options as seen below.
You can choose to get comments on your new article using the Site Comments feature, create more content, go back to the dashboard, view your new post, or you can edit your article directly inside WordPress.
I typically always start with editing inside WordPress to set up my metadata, or the search results that others will see when they visit my new post.
You just can’t beat the overall ease of use and convenience of this great writing platform. It literally has everything you need from start to finish, just like the Wealthy Affiliate platform.
If you would like to learn more about Wealthy Affiliate and how to gain access to this writing tool and so much more, you need to read my Ultimate Wealthy Affiliate Review. I cover every aspect of the platform that you need to know, so you can make the decision to get started online with the right training from the beginning.
Man, that was a longer post than I expected, but now you know everything. You know what Site Content is about, how to use it, and why I feel it’s the best writing platform that you can get access to for free.
If you feel that I left something out, or maybe you need more clarification, please let me know in the comments.
Otherwise, tell me how Site Content stacks up against the tools you have used in the past, or how do you think this will work for your online business moving forward.
With that, I bid thee farewell. I hope you enjoyed this article as much as I did.
To Your Success,
