What is Site Builder About?

You may have asked yourself this question after hearing about the Site Builder feature at Wealthy Affiliate.

Maybe you have never heard about it at all, and now your curious.

What is it, and how will this benefit you?

Well, if you are planning to build a new website in the near future, you may want to stick around to hear about the Site Builder feature over at Wealthy Affiliate. This could be a game changer for you.

Before I explain how to use it, let me first answer the question from the beginning of this post.

What Is Site Builder About?

The Site Builder, is one of many features offered inside the Wealthy Affiliate platform, and it’s a product of their SiteRubix tool set.

Like all the other Site features, Site Builder is about user experience, or adding value and convenience to the WA membership. This incredibly simple tool will allow you to create your very own website for free within seconds, create a website using a domain that you already own, or head over to the Site Domains tool to register a new domain.

You can literally have a website up and running within 30 seconds using this tool, and you don’t need a tech background to pull it off either. All you need, is a Wealthy Affiliate membership.

So, now that you know what Site Builder is about, lets discuss how to use it to your advantage.

How To Use Site Builder:

All the SiteRubix tools are exclusive to Wealthy Affiliate and their members. You can get access to the Site Builder with a free membership and use it to create, one of your two free websites, offered with your free WA membership. Premium members will get free hosting for any paid domains hosted at WA.

To access the Site Builder feature, you must first log in to Wealthy Affiliate.

Now, on the left-hand side of the screen, click “Websites”, and then click “Site Builder”. See the image below for a visual.Site Builder Navigation example

This will take you to the Site Builder home page, and this is where we can get started creating our websites, with either free or paid domains.

Site Builder On A Free Domain

You will be prompted with a question. What kind of website do you want to build?

Now is the time to choose, and we are going to start with “on a free domain”, and work our way through the options.

Site Builder Free Domain Creation example

As you can see, this is a simple four step process to creating your first free WA website.

Step 1: Decide what kind of website you want to build.

If your new to this whole online business idea, then I highly recommend that you go with the free domain. Take your time and get used to the process.

When you sign up for Wealthy Affiliate, you will also have access to the first series of training from two separate courses.

By the time you finish this training, you should have a firm idea of what will be involved moving forward, have a website up and running, and be able to make an educated decision whether or not you want to pursue this.

Step 2: Choosing your free domain name

If you choose to create a free website, you will be given a free domain. That domain name will be “.siterubix.com”.

What does this mean?

Let’s say that you choose to name your website “howtobuildawebsite”. Your domain name will be “howtobuildawebsite.siterubix.com”.

We will cover how to get a regular .com domain name soon, but that is not an option when using a free domain. By choosing the free option, you will not own the domain, Wealthy Affiliate will.

A siterubix.com website has been proven capable of ranking high in the SERPs, but more often than not, the more traditional variations will rank better, such as .com .net, and .org.

The benefit of opting for the free version is that you can try before you buy.

Set up and manage your website for a while, get a firm understanding of what your doing and what’s necessary to be successful. Then, if you are still attracted to the idea of creating your own online business and earning an income from the comfort of your home, you can purchase a domain name to take ownership of your website. There is no need to rush.

You can even transfer your free websites to a paid domain using the Site Manager feature.

Step 3: Choose a title for your website

What do you want your website name to be?

This does not have to be the same as your domain name.

The title is what your website will be known as, and this is most often what people will associate with your brand.

You will have the option to change the title of your site at any time, so you don’t need to think to hard on this in the beginning.

It’s a very simple process and many will choose to have their website name match their domain name.

Step 4: Pick a theme

This should be a simple process, but many, including myself, overthink this in the beginning. The sheer number of choices can be overwhelming at first, and you may find it hard to settle on just one theme that you think will fit the overall design and direction of your new website.

Don’t overthink this. You will likely change this many times before finding the right theme, so just pick one that seems nice, and roll with it. I mean, there’s only more than 4,100 options to choose from.

Keep in mind, anytime that you plan to change your theme, you should always backup your website first, just in case.

This covers everything for the free website set up using Site Builder. Now let’s move onto a domain you already own.

Site Builder On A Paid Domain

Remember the four step process from the free website domain set-up?

Well, here it is again, with only one difference. Now, instead of a free .siterubix.com domain name, you will get to use an official domain name that you have already purchased. The rest of the steps are exactly the same, so I won’t cover them again, to save both of our sanity.

Now, if you do not already have a purchased domain name, then we can move on to “Register a domain”.

Site Builder: Register A Domain

While this is an option within the Site Builder feature, it is not part of the builder itself. Instead, this will take you to the Site Domains feature, so that you can purchase your new domain name, and then return to Site Builder to create a website with the domain that you now own.

You can check out my article about Site Domains here to find out everything you need to know about how to use the Site Domains feature.
