What Led Me to These Life Changing Business Books
I used to be one of the majority. The majority that would settle for a dead end job, had no real understanding of finances, and I was doomed to a life of mediocrity. I wasn’t necessarily in this position because I chose to be, but rather, because I had never considered that there were better options for someone like me.
My parents were always working, and they lacked the same type of knowledge that has set so many free from that lifestyle. The type of knowledge I would eventually seek, and that lead me here, to present you with my top three life changing business books.
I used to believe, this was how life was supposed to be. Grow up, get a job, get married, grow old, retire, and try to enjoy yourself all along the way when you can. The problem for me was that I could rarely afford to just go out and enjoy myself with my family. Time wasn’t the issue, money was.
I was constantly broke and barely making ends meet. I was fed up with how things were and I wanted to change my circumstances. I started considering options to build something for myself because I understood that nobody would change things for me, I must make that change.
I just wasn’t sure where to start.
I must find another alternative to my dead end job and I must secure my growing families future.
I decided to reach out to people I thought were already successful, and see what it was that I was missing. What had they done that gave them the freedom to leave work anytime they wanted, because they didn’t feel obligated to stay there.
They had the power to walk away at any moment and not be concerned with the bills that were due or their next meal.
That was the type of freedom I was after.
It didn’t take me long to see a common trend among the few that shared their stories with me. They had a different viewpoint about money and how it should be used.
They put in the extra hours, took risk, and educated themselves to accomplish their goals of financial independence.
I was eager to learn and transform myself to that level, so I started looking for books that may educate me in that direction. While I have read many related books, these three were my favorites and what I feel will be the most relevant to help you shift your mindset, if you haven’t already.
Now, let get into my top three must read, life changing business books.
#1. Rich Dad Poor Dad: by Robert T. Kiyosaki
It’s likely no surprise, to anyone who knows this book, that it’s at the top of my list.
This was the book that really changed my way of thinking about money and got my gears turning in the right direction.
New York Times best-seller for over six years, Rich Dad Poor Dad was written in 1995 and boasts over 58 million copies sold in various languages and countries across the world.
This is the financial education that we should be teaching to our children.
I often buy extra copies of this book to give out to close friends and family, and occasionally I’ll even give it to someone Ive just met who may have expressed interest in learning how to change their financial situation, or just to pass it along and spread the wealth of knowledge.
The lessons taught within have stood the test of time and are still very relevant today as they will be far into the future.
You will learn the real difference between what most people consider an asset, what is really a liability, and how to tell them apart. Robert explains, in simple terms, how cash flow works and what you must do if you ever want to reach financial independence and escape the rat race.
Learn how just having a job is not a safe investment in your future, and why building real assets like, owning a business, owning income producing real estate, or learning to be financially literate and increase your financial I.Q. are so important if you ever wish to achieve success financially.
If you haven’t read this book yet, You Need To. It’s not expensive and it could be the best investment you ever make.
#2. Think and Grow Rich: by Napoleon Hill
Think and Grow Rich was written in 1937, so it’s a bit of an old school style of writing, but a great read nonetheless. This book has also stood the test of time, and as of 2015, has sold over 100 million copies worldwide.
Yes, you read that correctly, One Hundred Million. That alone should speak to the testament of this book, plus it was written during the Great Depression and it’s still thriving today.
This book is an updated version of The Laws of Success, a book that Hill had written in 1925. One of the many results of his life work.
Hill had spent 20 years studying over 500 successful individuals to come up with a list of 16 laws of success in the original version, and the later Think and Grow Rich was narrowed down to 13 principals for success.
The teachings within are focused strongly on developing a positive mindset, setting definite goals, and creating an intense desire for riches, while becoming “money conscious”, as Hill states it. It’s meant to help you transform from a failure, to a success mindset.
Hill advocates that you must first develop a “burning desire” for your definite purpose, whatever it is. Set a specific goal in your mind, focus on that one goal, develop an extreme desire to achieve it, then take action to see it fulfilled.
The more that you desire a specific goal, the more likely you are to go out and achieve that goal.
No successful business person has got to where they are just by slacking off and saying “I kinda want it”. They have a burning desire to achieve a set task, something that they feel so strongly about, it must be done.
There are exceptions to every rule, but you would be hard-pressed to find a successful business person without this level of motivation. At least not one that earned it themselves.
Riches doesn’t only apply to money in this book, the concepts within can work for any burning desire you have. Want to “be happy, lose weight, stop smoking, earn a promotion, build an empire”, whatever it is, this book will show you the way.
Many successful business owners will tell you that this book is a Must Read, and I am inclined to agree.
#3. How To Win Friends and Influence People: by Dale Carnegie
This is a self-help book that was published back in 1936. With over 15 million copies sold worldwide, this one also, has stood the test of time. Revised and compressed in 1981, this book is still relevant today, and will offer you many concepts on the art of dealing with people.
This book was even ranked as the 7th most influential book in American history by the Library of Congress. An impressive accolade and testament to the contents.
You will learn a host of skills related to winning friends and influencing people.
Skills such as:
- becoming a better public speaker
- how to ethically influence others to see things from your perspective
- increase your income by becoming a better salesperson
- how to minimize undesired outcomes while dealing with others
That is just to name a few and these are crucial skills to obtain, if you don’t have them already.
We, as business owners should keep in mind that we are in the people business. The point of any business is to solve problems for others and to help people.
We all make decisions on emotion and rationalize the decision with logic. Learning how to influence (Not Manipulate) others is critical to the success of any business owner or salesperson.
It’s a great read with amazing content, so if you haven’t already, You Must Read This One.
#4. Bonus Book – Expert Secrets: by Russell Brunson
I enjoyed this book so much, that I thought I would throw this in as a bonus.
For those of you who don’t know, Russell Brunson is the guy behind ClickFunnels, the ready-made marketing system that lets you easily lead your customers from one sale to the next higher tier offer.
Expert Secrets follows Russell’s other best-seller, DotCom Secrets, which is also worth a read.
I can’t say that this book has stood the test of time just yet, as it was only published in 2017, however, I do expect that these marketing tactics will still flourish for years to come.
Russell even mentions that his goal was for the strategies in the book to be evergreen. Only time will tell if this goal was met but I expect that it will be.
There is a good deal to learn from this book as it relates to online marketing strategies.
- How to create a following the right way
- Inspiring others to believe in your offer
- The importance of offering more value throughout your funnel
- And how to create the perfect sales funnel
If your just starting out in the online business world, then you could learn a lot from this book, however, those who are already experts, may not learn anything new, but perhaps some new ways of looking at old practices.
You can actually get a free copy of this book, if you cover the shipping. It’s cheap and completely worth it but be prepared.
As you make your way through the process of getting your free book, you will be offered multiple upsells that can add up quick. It’s not necessary to take these to get your free copy but you may want to invest more to get more.
In Fact, I would suggest that you pay close attention to Russell, the tactics used throughout the sales video, and to the structure of the offers.
This is your opportunity to see the whole process in action, and let me say, he is good at what he does. I felt like I was missing out because I couldn’t buy the entire package at the time. I hadn’t even started my business when I first grabbed my free copy but I prefer the knowledge up front, rather than to learn it after the fact.
I think that a business can only grow as much you have grown. To take your business to new heights, you must learn new ways to accomplish that trek up the mountain.
Investing in books is a great cost effective way to expand your working knowledge on any subject that you desire.
The top business people in the world read often. Some even take speed reading courses so that they can read more and get to the information they need faster.
Make an investment in your future and your business and pick up a copy of each of these today.
Have you read any or all of these life changing business books yourself, if so, what did you think about them and did they have any life changing effects for you?
Would you recommend the same books, or perhaps you have something better in mind?
